Value is an element of art that can create an emotional feel to a design.

Value can be as easily considered as the design either being dark or light.  Dark designs can give a bold and as the name implies, dark feel to them.  Most of the time, grayscale is involved in the design of darker designs, and tints and shades of the colors in the design are often used.  They can create a mood to a design that is centralized with the placement of color.  Light designs are becoming more modern and lot of times play on the negative space in the design.  Color blocking is a current trend that shows up a lot of times in lighter designs.  Many magazines use this form of value because it’s not only cheaper to print, but it is easier on the eyes to view text on a lighter background or on blocks of lighter tints and shades.
