Form is a very important piece of modern design.

Modern design shows a lot of clean space with a 3-Deminsional effect to things like buttons and links.  Examples of this are your different Application buttons on things like smart phones and iPads.  Form can be achieved by making something 2-Deminsional appear to be 3-Deminosial.  Corkboards, product packaging, slide shows, drop shadows, overlapping, and opaque silhouettes are just a few ways that you can create form and dimension in your design.  Form gives your design a lift that is more interesting and visually stimulating.
